As part of age-old teachings handed down from the Tibetan Gyume Temple and regarded as a mandala of one of the highest levels, the sacred Mandala of the Diamond World features Buddhas represented by sacred Tibetan seed syllables. The five syllables symbolize the Five Buddhas of the Diamond Realm (Jpn. Gobutsu or Gochi Nyorai ,) each, in turn, the embodiment of a particular wisdom.

The diety in the center is the Great Sun Buddha (Skt. Maha Vairocana, Jp. Dainichi Nyorai, the Great Illumined One) from which all life manifests and from which eminates Complete Wisdom of the Essence of the Dharma Realm  and includes the combined wisdoms of the surrounding Four Buddhas of the Four Directions.  Immediately below is placed Akshobhya (Jpn. Ashuku Nyorai) expressing the Great Perfect Mirror Wisdom and shown in the blue color of dusk in the east. To the left is placed Ratnasa?bhava (Jpn. Hōshō Nyorai) endowed with all Wisdom of Equality and shown in the color of the mid-day sun of the southern direction.  At the top of the Manadala is placed Amitabha (Jpn. Amida Nyorai) possessing the Wisdom of Subtle and Wonderous Observing and shown in the red color of sunset in Western Paradise. Finally, placed on the right side is Amoghasiddhi (Jpn. Fukūjōju Nyorai), from which emanates the Wisdom Developed by Practice and shown in the color green.

The Buddhas of the Four Directions, all emanations of the centrally placed Dainichi Nyorai, can be thought to revolve around the central image. This highly revered Mandala of the Diamond Realm is presented in the finest Nishiki weave with the Sanskrit seed syllables revealed in gold thread.
