Reminiscing Murasaki

Reminiscing Murasaki
Reminiscing Murasaki

The long awaited jewel--a baby boy was born to the emperor Kiritsubo and his most favored consort, the lady-in-waiting, Kiritsubo no Koui. Yearning for the sight of the newborn child and to take him into his arms, the Mikado (emperor), with an unrestrained impetuous heart, not even stopping to change his clothes, rushes straightaway to visit Koui. In the last years of Murasaki Shikibu's life, in the misty area bordering reality and dreams, Shikibu herself catches a glimpse of the Mikado and Koui. The aura of murasaki; a reminiscence of murasaki. With almost no detailed description of the scene of the birth of Hikaru Genji and with no historical example of weaving dimensions, based purely on references from classics from the same era, we attempt to weave this scene into fabric as a Nishiki work of art.

We rejoice in the celebration of the 1000th anniversary of The Tales of Genji---
